Changing the Game, Retrofitting for Resilience

This presentation centers on helping the building industry develop a game plan for improving the efficiency, performance, and resilience of existing buildings amid mounting climate and infrastructure pressures. The presentation is built around three initiatives that speak directly to our industry:

• Strengthening resilience through codes: Expanding outreach to code officials and governments, reinforcing the role building codes play in resilient design.

• Cross-functional teamwork and the retrofit “game plan”: Recognizing that no single approach fits every building, I am championing collaboration across disciplines to retrofit existing buildings for efficiency and resilience.

• Gamifying education for the next generation: we launched ASHRAE HVAC Hero, an educational video game that puts players in the role of a facility manager balancing energy use and building performance.  The link to the game download is here: https://www.ashrae.org/hvachero  Target audience is college students and young professionals, but we have gotten good feedback from HS students too, so if you have someone in your life that fits this demographic, or you want to check it out, please do!  I want all feedback!  There is a downloadable file, for PC and Mac.
